Silas is napping, the dishes are done, Chet is still at work= time to update the blog. This is something I started a while ago, but then things were so crazy and busy...excuses! Here is a brief comment from way back in the moment:
"We are moving to Korea. Weird. Things are starting to feel real. Chet is already there, finishing up inprocessing. Silas and I are getting ready for the journey. The movers came today and packed up all of our things. They were really nice and professional, and all our stuff went into boxes or brown paper. Si was so good all day! He even took a nice long nap on a makeshift bed in the closet. "
Here is said closet:
Once we checked out of that apartment, Silas and I made our way to St. Louis. We shipped our car and checked into a hotel to await our flight around the world. In the meantime we hung out in the hotel, took a dip in the pool, and took a trip to the St. Louis zoo, which was actually really fun, in spite of being a chilly January day with just the two of us.
The flights went well. Silas was a super star! He barely fussed even though he was stuck in his carseat for so much of the time. He got multiple compliments for being "such a good baby". That's my boy!
The first few days adjusting to the new time zone were really hard. Silas didn't adjust as quickly as I did, so we were getting up at 2am to play for a couple hours for the first few days. Good thing the front desk staff at the hotel loved babies.
HOME!!! We moved into our new apartment the beginning of February. Chet had a training mission, so I was tasked with getting all of our luggage from the hotel to our place. With three of us having two large bags each, plus Chet's army issued gear acquired here, and a stroller/carseat/baby combo, I had a lot of stuff to transport. Bonus: We didn't have our car here yet. After all of our best efforts to make everything fit into one taxi, I had to spring for a second one to haul the rest of my stuff! This pile had to be moved from the hotel room to a storage locker, then to the taxi, then to the elevator, then to our hall. I just about collapsed as soon as that was done.
Our place is great. Chet and I both couldn't be happier with the neighborhood where we ended up. The view from our place is pretty awesome!
There is this cute restaurant across the street from us with this sweet lady who just LOVES babies! She gives tangerines for Silas every time we've gone there (3 times in the first 2 months, we love it!)
Silas's first bus ride. He was fascinated to be in a vehicle without a carseat.
Silas already made a girlfriend here.
There are these cute garden plots a few blocks from our place. Koreans are serious about their gardening. Any unused piece of ground gets something planted in it.
Some other Korean randomness:
Silas is growing up so fast. He started crawling in the first couple weeks in country. He learned how to pull himself up on furniture and toys. I was excited when he learned how to get back down again on his own.
Baby snacks were the perfect Squeaky bait to encourage crawling. (Squeaky is a nickname that is starting to stick, thanks to Chet)

This baby loves food, if you couldn't tell by his roundish physic.
So cute! Seven month old Silas.
